Studio Series

Studio Series basses bring the most common design elements of St. Germaine Guitars renowned basses to a more affordable line of instruments. All basses remain entirely hand made by Geoff, with all of the same features, components and quality as the Custom Series basses. By limiting options, these basses can be produced more efficiently with these saving passed along to the player.

  • Choose from the Condor model with conventional tuning or the headless Vulture model, with 4-, 5- or 6-strings.

    A wide range of scale lengths are available from 780 mm to 890 mm (30.75” to 35”), while bridge string spacing is limited. Choose the Condor model for its more compact body and narrower string spacing (5- and 6-string models) or the Vulture model, with it’s larger body and wider string spacing.

  • The Studio Series basses use our time tested wood recipes that deliver St. Germaine Guitars basses distinctive tone. Choose the Condor bass for it’s classic combination of Northern Ash, Maple and Pau Ferro or the Vulture with it’s more mid-forward recipe of American Cherry, White Oak and Obsidian Ebony®.

    An optional figured facing is available for the body. A variety of highly figured woods are on hand for the Studio Series basses, however, availability varies. Please inquire to find out the offerings available. Common woods include figured Maples, Walnut, Shedua and Redwood.

    For those desiring a fretless instrument, we offer the Studio Series with an optional Gabon Ebony fingerboard.

  • The Condor model features a Hipshot Products® A-style bridge with Graph Tech® Ratio® tuning machines. The headless Vulture model features Hipshot Products® Headless bridge with Riviera® RBBSH® locking headpieces.

    Studio Series basses feature brass nuts, Jescar Music® stainless steel frets, Dunlop® Dual-design strap buttons, Flexstrong® stainless steel dual-action truss rods and carbon fibre neck stiffening reinforcement.

  • We are particularly proud of the dual-coil pickups developed for us by our Canadian partner MJS Custom Pickups®. These offer a very balanced a detailed tone and are optimized to work with series/parallel switching to give fatter, mid-focused series tones or flatter, hi-fi parallel tones.

    We offer the Studio Series basses with our dual-coil MJS Custom Pickups® paired with a Bartolini® NTMB 3-band EQ preamplifier. There are two optional packages, one an upgrade to the Trickfish® Flexcore® 4-band EQ preamplifier and the other pairing a low-impedance version of our MJS Custom Pickups® dual-coil pickups with a JTex Electronics® dual active-lowpass filter system with a 1-band bass EQ control.

    Our preferred preamplifiers are sourced from Bartolini®, Trickfish®, and JTex Electronics®. These offer flexible 3- and 4-band preamplifiers, as well as an active low-pass filter preamplifier.

    The custom series can also be ordered with a variety of other pickups and preamplifiers and we have worked with Delano®, Kent Armstrong®, EMG®, Bartolini®, Seymour Duncan®, Glockenklang®, Richter® and John East®. If you have specific pickups and preamplifiers that suit your taste, we can integrate them into a Custom Series bass.

  • We offer oil and wax finishes as standard. These finishes reveal the beauty of the woods selected for your bass while also providing a finish that can be very easily touched up in the future.

    For clients seeking high gloss or coloured finishes, we outsource UV-cured polyurethane finishes to Vancouver Guitar Finishing. These are the ultimate in ultra-thin lacquer type finishes and are available in almost any colour, from natural, to transparent and burst colours, to solid colours, metallics and colour-shift paints.
